Another interesting option (it’s the one I use) is cryptmypic (www.cryptmypic.com). It offers high security encryption protected with password and the ability to share your encrypted pics by email. I will need the password to be able to open it when you receive it. There’s an android version just released which is fully compatible with the iOS one.
What I use is Doc Vault.
It creates a separate area which is protected by a passcode (or Dot Lock), any type of file can be protected with it.
The normal operation of the iPhone is not affected by it, and it offers additionally a browser where the history can be hidden and a tool to create pdf from txt files.
